Dr. Katherine T. Nichols (Dr. Katie)
Dr. Katherine T. Nichols (Dr. Katie) was born and raised in Terre Haute, Indiana. She graduated from Butler University in 2006 with an undergraduate degree in Biology. She went on to attend Indiana University School of Dentistry, graduating with honors in 2010 and completed her residency program in Pediatric Dentistry at Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health. Dr. Katie’s pediatric dental training includes specialized care for infants, children, adolescents and patients with special health care needs.
As a mom, Dr. Katie understands the complexities of children’s oral health and is passionate about providing a positive experience for her patients and their families. She knows first-hand the stress that a child’s dental appointment can bring and prides herself on creating a tailored experience unique to your child’s individual needs. She enjoys educating patients on preventative care and the importance of oral hygiene through each stage of life.
Dr. Katie is an active member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD), the American Dental Association, and the Indiana Society of Pediatric Dentistry. She is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and maintains hospital privileges at St. Vincent’s Carmel Hospital and IU North Hospital. Dr. Katie is certified in CPR and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) to provide her patients with the safest and most up to date sedation options possible.
Dr. Katie and her husband, Scott, enjoy spending as much time as possible with their children, Nolan, Knox and twins Collin and Nora. They enjoy family bike rides, playing at the park and cheering on the Butler Bulldogs. Dr. Katie and her husband are members of Meridian Street United Methodist Church, the Indianapolis Children’s Museum, and the Ovid Butler Society. She looks forward to meeting your family and providing them with exceptional pediatric dental care.
Dr. Carol G. McKown
Over the past 32 years in private practice, Dr. Carol has deepened her passion for children’s oral healthcare. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, a past president of the Indiana Society of Pediatric Dentistry and the Indiana University Pediatric Dentistry Alumni Association. She was the dental liaison to the Indiana Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics for over 20 years and is also an active member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the American Dental Association, and the Indianapolis District Dental Society. She is also a board examiner for the oral examination section of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. McKown has served as a past member of the St. Vincent Craniofacial Anomalies team and works with patients with cleft lip and palate, as well as other craniofacial anomalies.
Dr. Carol has three grown children, Katie, Annie and David, and two new grandchildren to spoil. In her free time she enjoys traveling, spending time with her family, and ballroom dancing. Ask to see her salsa moves next time you are in the office!
Dr. McKown is very interested in the prevention of dental disease, starting good dental habits early, and good nutrition. She encourages the first dental visit by one year of age to establish a dental home. Her greatest joy is taking an apprehensive child and making them feel welcome and comfortable in her office. After 30 years, she still loves children and pediatric dentistry. She looks forward to seeing you in the office!
